At the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on April 15, the OAA honoured its newest Members of Long Standing—individuals who have achieved the milestone of 50 years of membership with the OAA, contributing to Ontario’s built environment and its architecture profession.
Among this year’s honourees was Moshe Safdie.

A celebrated Architect, urban planner, educator, theorist, and author, Moshe is known for his socially responsible and human-centered design philosophy. His extensive portfolio includes cultural, educational, and civic institutions; housing; mixed-use urban centres; public parks; airports; and master plans for communities and cities across North and South America, the Middle East, and Asia.
A citizen of Israel, Canada, and the United States, Moshe’s iconic works include Habitat 67 in Montreal, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas, Jewel Changi Airport and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Vancouver Public Library, and the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem.
His groundbreaking contributions have earned him numerous honours, including the Companion of the Order of Canada, Gold Medals from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the American Institute of Architects, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian’s National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement, and the prestigious Wolf Prize in Architecture, recognizing his innovative and socially conscious approach to design.
