The Waterloo Climate Institute has unveiled findings from a national survey assessing climate change education in Canadian professional degree programs. Conducted between October 2024 and February 2025, the study highlights the integration of climate competencies in fields like engineering, architecture, planning, and accounting.
Key insights reveal that 70% of architecture programs are leading the way by embedding climate change into their teaching approaches, with 85% including climate science fundamentals.. However, such barriers as time constraints, financial limitations, and the need for specialized teaching resources persist across disciplines.
The survey recommends enhancing faculty training, access to teaching tools, and interdisciplinary collaboration to better prepare future professionals for climate adaptation challenges. Results were presented at the National Forum on
