With the support of
OAA’s Practice Resource Committee and legal counsel,
PT.12 Residential Clients (Small projects) has been refocused on single detached dwellings although much of the content is applicable in other contexts. It emphasizes dealing with a client’s role, expectations, and communications.
Originally published in 2009, the Practice Tip (PT) introduces a new section on the role of the
Ontario New Home Warranty Program and the need to hire
licensed builders. Through an expanded “Suggested Procedure” section, the PT identifies several common issues that should be addressed between the Architect/Licensed Technologist and the client at the beginning of the project to help the project run smoothly. These include the need to budget for typical costs beyond design fees and construction costs and that approvals by authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) are beyond the control of the certificate of practice (CoP) holder.
This latest version includes updated references and a new section of resources that may be useful to share with clients.
