TSA and OAA Co-Hosted Virtual “Big Think” on K–12 Education

The Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) and the OAA recently held a virtual roundtable to discuss the current landscape of architecture education in Ontario and Canada as it pertains to elementary and secondary school students (i.e. kindergarten to Grade 12 or K–12).

This event, held on July 11, brought together representatives from various Canadian universities (Laurentian, Toronto Metropolitan, Carleton, McGill, and Athabasca) with Local Architectural Societies (TSA and the Windsor Region Society of Architects [WRSA]), volunteer groups, and not-for-profit organizations.

Participants engaged in a robust discussion, addressing the priorities of the organizations and the inclusivity of their efforts. The role of different organizations was explored, along with short- and long-term strategies to enhance K–12 architecture education in Ontario.

The OAA, as the regulator, aims to promote public appreciation of architecture through education initiatives. The roundtable aimed to identify opportunities for collaboration, cross-pollination, and connection across existing architecture education initiatives. A full report is expected to be released later this year.
